Puerto Rico: A God-chosen People!

“Nosotros somos un pueblo predestinado en la historia,
porque Puerto Rico es la primera nación del mundo
donde se forma la unidad del espíritu
con la unidad biológica del cuerpo.”

“We are a People predestined in history,
because we are the first nation of the world
where the unity of the spirit
with the biological unity of the body is formed.”
-Don Pedro Albizu Campos

The Puerto Rican People are a nation in an, ‘embryonic stage’. This means that it is still in its earliest stages of development. Much like a chick inside the shell, our Nation is still developing, defining, and knowing itself. Compared to other peoples of the World with thousands of years of existence, Puerto Ricans are barely just beginning to walk, to take our initial steps as a nation, as a people. We cannot yet define exactly what a Boricua is?, what a Boricua looks like?, what language does a Boricua speak?, not even where does a Boricua live?... Puerto Ricans have already broken all the molds established by history to define nation.

Despite being a politically subjugated nation, Puerto Ricans no longer depend on a physical body, limited by geography or the laws of the World. Which means that to be "Puerto Rican" (Boricua), it is not even necessary to be born in the island of Puerto Rico, not even in the United States, or any place in particular for that matter. A Boricua is "Boricua" no matter where he/she is born, no matter where he/she is found, even if it is "on the moon"! The Puerto Rican Nation has transcended the limitations of "race" and political identity. Wherever a Boricua is found, he/she is, before anything else, "Boricua first!"

Our colonial condition has spread us all over this Earth, and even though we refer to our adored little island as our point of reference and origin, as our axis mundi (the center of our world), we no longer depend on a "political freedom" or on our geographic position to possess a sense of national identity. Like the Jews, Gypsies and other peoples have developed a sense of collective identity, which does not depend on the possession of a "national territory" or even physical body for its existence, Puerto Ricans also no longer depend on it. Our "national body" goes far beyond the physical or the material, of a geographic country, we are an international or “transborder” people, a nation without any limits other than those we impose on ourselves.

“Hay que levantar el espíritu público de Puerto Rico y decirle que puede llegar a ser lo que quiera y conquistar su independencia si así lo desea su voluntad. Estamos en plena bancarrota cívica y es menester que llevemos una infusión moral a nuestro pueblo para que vuelva a creer en su destino y en sus posibilidades. Nuestra Patria está en plena guerra sin defenderse, sólo un resurgimiento de la moral colectiva puede sarvarla.”

“There is a need to lift the public spirit of Puerto ico and to tell it that it can become whatever it wants and conquer its independence if its will desires it. We are in plain civil bankrupsy and it is necesary that we bring a moral infussion to our people so that it again belives in its destiny and its possibilities. Our Nation is in plain war without defending itself, only a resurgence of the collective moral can save it.”
-Don Pedro Albizu Campos

Only the physical or material body can be enslaved by force, and by liberating ourselves from the "political body," we liberate ourselves from the bondage to which it is subjected. As taught to us by El Maestro:

“La diferencia entre una colonia y una nación libre, es la diferencia que existe entre un esclavo y un hombre libre. El esclavo es una cosa, el hombre libre es una persona… Es decir, que el esclavo no tiene personalidad, no tiene derechos, no puede constituir familia, que es el fundamento básico de la dignidad del hombre.”

“The difference between a colony and a free nation, is the difference, which exists between a slave and a free man. The slave is a thing, a free man is a person... It is to say, that the slave does not have personality, he does not have rights, he cannot constitute family, which is the basic foundation of the dignity of man.”

“No se concive a la patria esclava como no se concive a la madre esclava.”

“The nation cannot be conceived as a slave as the mother cannot be conceived as a slave.”

Just like a "family", a nation is a living organism, and its members are vital organs. The nation is like the human body or that of any advanced living being, all of its cells, all of its organs, and all of its members compose the whole. The brain is it's central nucleus, or the organ, which governs it, and the ego or particular identity, is the "force" which guides it. For the body to grow and survive, all of its members, organs or components, must function appropriately. They must act collectively and in harmony.

The system by which a body maintains its internal stability is a coordinated and organized response of its parts to any disruptive situation or stimulus. A nation has an internal organizing force, which organizes or coordinates its existence based on a common goal, the ultimate of these being survival and happiness (welfare and prosperity). This allows it to carry out its own mission in this world. By definition, this "organizing force" is Nationalism.

Nationalism is the "religion" or "cult" of "the Nation." I'm talking about a collective "faith" and a series of practical doctrines and common values shared by a national identity together with a common history, and a common culture. This includes traditions and norms shared by the Nation. This "religion" or "faith" plays an important role in the formation of psychic collective and the particular culture of the Nation. A "national faith" functions to give the Nationalist movement its form, its particular personality. This element is found in all the activities generated with the purpose of collective individuation, the development and survival of the Nation.

As El Maestro teaches us, God is "creator and protector of all nationalities," as it is of all living creatures. And just like every single one of us has been created in the Creator's "image and likeness," so have been all nations. We are a God-chosen People, we just need to recognize it.

Once again, a nation is a body, which possesses Life, a living organism or being, created in God's "image and likeness". It is composed of its members, a concentration of organs and living material units, gathered together for the manifestation of a particular Being. "Nationalism is spiritualism. Nationalism is materialism. It, like man, has a soul and a body. And in its dual unity it has urgencies of both kinds." This is how it is taught to us by our Consecrated Teacher, Don Pedro Albizu Campos. Puerto Rican Nationalism is the soul of the Puerto Rican People, of the Nation as a living being. It is that invisible spirit, which allows us to grow as a people, and which guides us towards our ultimate self-determination.

Our Consecrated Teacher, Don Pedro Albizu Campos, has taught us that in order to reach “the Supreme Goal”, we must be committed to a strict and righteous discipline. "Discipline is the internal illumination of our conscience so that the will may clearly guide all of our spiritual froces through righteous paths."

“El Nacionalismo es la Patria organizada para el rescate de su Soberanía”

“Nationalism is the Country organized for the rescue of its Sovereignty.”
-Don Pedro Albizu Campos

Nationalism is the spirit devoted to the interests of the Nation. A desire for the advancement, welfare and prosperity of the free and sovereign Nation. It is the soul of the Nation. Nationalism is Patriotism, and Patriotism is the Love for the Nation. That Love is composed of will and effort, it is a duty. Nationalism requires the ultimate sacrifice, the maximum offering of Life.

“Podemos, en la alucinación del amor propio creernos haber hecho mucho.
No hemos hecho nada.

“We may, in the hallucination of self-love, believe to have done much.
We haven't done anything.
Because Patriotism is not self-love, but Love for the Nation.”
-Don Pedro Albizu Campos

Every single living creature is an entity chosen by the Creator to express its divinity in the World, to manifest itself. As we are taught by El Maestro, History is not just a consecutive succession of economic, social and political formations in which Humanity evolves according to the chronological change stemming from "primitive" societies until the present. Don Pedro Albizu Campos reminded us that History is a continuation of Creation, of God's daily work, in which the very Creator, is the protagonist.

He also reminded us that History is the collective process through which Humanity recovers, progressively and sacrificiously, its accord with The Creator, finding the glorious path from which it strayed in its Fall. This is why great nations, like the heroes of history, were, are and will always be, according to the virtue of their existence, flag-bearers of this process of purification of Humanity and stroll over the shadows of death.

Boricuas, as part of Humanity have not been created simply to serve as game pieces of circumstances, as victims of conditions or puppets moved from side to side by forces beyond our control. As part of Humanity, we share the peak of Creation and far from being insignificant, we are part of the Supreme Authority designated by the Creator to rule the Earth. We are, as the rest of the Divine Creation, the instruments through which Wisdom, Knowledge, Life and all of the powers of the Creative Intelligence, of God, are expressed. Since we have been created in its "image and likeness," we are also creators, each one of us of our own manifestation. We are creators; everything we are, our life, our world, our circumstances, everything we experienjce, is our own creation.

Create!

As a people, we are all entitled to certain basic "unalienable rights." We all have the right to a private identity of our own: a body, a family, a tribe, a nation, etc. The right to inhabit our own physical space; a room, a house, a village, a country... that will act as our protective shell, and in which we can remain as an uncompromised and absolute personality. We all have the right to basic privileges such as food, clothing and shelter. Social orientation and the protection of others are essential in preserving these privileges. Liberty, Fraternity, and Equality are vital attributes of a free and sovereign people, and without these, there is no security, no rest, no play, no reward for one's efforts.

A free and sovereign nation is the result of solidarity for the needs of fellow community members, cooperation and mutual support to overcome mutual obstacles, defend against mutual adversaries and create a society in which all who cooperate mutually benefit. Unity is the most important element of a free and sovereign nation. Common history, traditions and regulations are the boundaries, which define a society. They are the common denominators or the particular culture of a society, its collective identity or consciousness. These common rites, traditions and regulations are the boundaries, which define and enclose a national society. They are the common denominators or the particular culture of a society. The various expressions of these are the indicators by which members of a society are identified and identify one another. They are the bonds that hold the society together within a culture. Every society has the need for a series of common traditions and regulations, which are at least respected and understood by most of its members. In the history of Humanity, never has a successful people evolved without possessing common rites, traditions and regulations.

One of the key elements of Nationalism is fraternity. "Fraternity is great and it can accomplish much." The Human drive to come together in groups, which give meaning and purpose to each individual as well as to the group as whole is a biological and spiritual urge which acts for the preservation of the individual, of the group and of the species. It expresses itself as an automatic expression to protect the organism, which may be described as current or flow of energy, a subliminal up-rush to emphasize spiritual intent. It creates a sense of individual and collective identity and purpose. It reinforces and protects the social unit against submergence. It is the natural urge to survive in Liberty, Happiness and Prosperity. A national identity is the result of this force of nature.

“Hay una visión de belleza puertorriqueña. Hay una fé puertorriqueña. Hay una fé que se extiende hasta la eternidad de generaciones por nacer de grandes, nobles y santos puertorriqueños.”

“There is a Puerto Rican vision of beauty. There is a Puerto Rican Faith. There is a faith, which extends to the eternity of generations to be born of great, noble and holy Puerto Ricans.”
-Don Pedro Albizu Campos

All nations are ultimately the product of not just centuries, but millennia of tradition and evolution, a continuum of the legacy of their ancestors. Many of us have been disconnected from these traditions and societies through the process of colonization. But the Light continues to shine, illuminating the way for the dispersed members of our Great Family.

So when I say that "Puerto Ricans are a God-chosen People", I say it for the following reason; just like an individual person must recognize his/her most intimate identity linked to the Supreme Being to be able to realize his/her individual mission in this world, a people or nation, a collective personality or conscience, must also recognize itself as an expression of the Creator in order to evolve and reach its destiny on Earth.

The Puerto Rican Nation must wake up and recognize the role, which it is destined to play in the present and in the future of Humanity. Our leaders must understand that our nation, like all others, has a special mission. A particular mission linked to the rest of Humanity and this world in which we exist. It is time to honor our history and the legacy of our ancestors, to forge our own destiny, of founding our house!
